Historic downtown Thomasville is a great place to dine, shop, learn about our rich past, or just hang out. But we don’t want you to take our word for it. We want you to come and see it for yourself!
You can start by heading to the Thomasville Visitors Center to get some information about taking a self-guided tour through our historic streets. Thomasville has many buildings on the National Register of Historic Places. From there you might want to Hunt the Lost Quail. To celebrate the great Red Hills tradition of quail hunting on area plantations, Thomasville sports 18 hand-sculpted bronze quail statues hidden in various places downtown, high and low, just waiting to be spotted.
Nothing keeps a downtown vibrant like a festival, and Thomasville has them all year round. We host the Plantation Wildlife Arts Festival in November and our Victorian Christmas in December. No calendar is complete without a Fourth of July celebration—Thomasville’s includes live music at the Ritz Amphitheater, fun activities for the kids, and, of course, fireworks. And you may have heard that they call Thomasville the City of Roses. It makes sense; after all, our April Rose Show Festival has been a tradition since the 1920s. As if that wasn’t enough, downtown Thomasville holds a First Friday Sip and Stroll each month from March to December (except for July). Shops and restaurants stay open late so you can see all that our local businesses have to offer and enjoy the sound of live music, with a different band playing each month. We know there’s an event for you in Thomasville. Check out the full festival calendar and see!
If you want to go shopping, downtown Thomasville has many local specialty shops to help you find something unique to take home. Naturally, our downtown stores have places to get clothing, shoes, and jewelry. But there’s more: they also offer crafts and antiques, books, outfitting, taxidermy, and stuff for the kids.
While you’re downtown, you’ll want to grab a bite to eat from one of our many fine restaurants. We’ve got seafood, steakhouses, Mexican food, pizza, sandwiches, ice cream, coffee, wines, and more—all served with that famous Southern hospitality. And if you want some specialty foods to take home as a gift (or for yourself!) we’ve got everything from handcrafted chocolates to fine cheeses made from the milk of grass-fed cows.
Come downtown and see why the National Main Street Center has designated Thomasville a Great American Main Street City and experience firsthand why the National Trust for Historic Preservation said that Thomasville was one of a dozen top places to visit in the U.S.
Stay awhile. You’ll be glad that you did!
